Concept and Editorial Design: Stillness in Time

For the International Publishing Minor of the University of Applied Sciences Amsterdam, I independently executed the book “Still Lifes and Stillness in Time”. My work is inspired by contemporary Still Life art: this can be seen in the arrangement of text blocks, pull quotes, and spacing. Concept, design, printing and binding are based on the essay “Still Life as a Model of Spacetime", by Matilde Marcolli.

Beyond the design, prototyping and experimentation with papers shaped my outcome, a Swiss bound book. After exporting and printing the files on purposely chosen papers, I started to make the hardcover and bound the book with a kettle stitch binding. The book block and cover are connected with bold neon endpapers.
